Skyrim, a game that was first released in 2011 (has it really been that long?), has managed to maintain a dedicated fanbase and continues to be a popular title among gamers today. But what makes a game this old so popular? In this article, we will be looking at some of the reasons why Skyrim has managed to keep its fanbase coming back for more.

Plenty of Quests and Storylines to Keep You Occupied

The selection of quests available to do in Skyrim is way too big, ranging from the major main quests that have a big influence on the world to the minor side quests that offer boring and fun experiences (depending on your mood). The player has the option of becoming a hero who slays dragons (not hoes), becoming a member of one of the many factions, or simply exploring the world in search of new territories to discover. P.S. The factions all feel exactly the same.

Each playthrough will be unique because the game’s tasks are designed to be open-ended. Basically, you can do what you want. The different characters, voices, and dialogue are really catchy and memorable.

Mods Galore

Skyrim has a strong and very active modding community that has created a whole host of mods for the game, from simple cosmetic changes to major gameplay overhauls. Mods can be downloaded and installed using a variety of tools, such as the Nexus Mod Manager or the updated version, Vortex, and they can be used to add new content to the game, ranging from new weapons, armour, and enemies to adding new locations, quests, and characters to the game. In addition, some mods fix bugs left by developers that plague players to this day, and others make changes to the game’s mechanics, like movement and combat overhauls.

There are even mods for random things, such as gambling mods. There are mods that add gambling minigames to the game, including fan favourites such as blackjack, poker, and roulette, which can be played in different locations such as taverns or even casinos; they weren’t there before. These mods also add new items, such as chips or gold coins, to the game, which can be used to participate in gambling activities. Although, if real-life online casinos are more your speed, click here.

A Vast Open-world is Always a Plus

One of the most important features of Skyrim is its vast and detailed open world, which gives players a truly immersive and engaging gameplay experience without feeling restricted. The game’s world is set in Skyrim (who could have guessed), a province in the country of Tamriel, which is a vast and diverse landscape filled with mountains, forests, and ancient ruins. In the game, there are all sorts of locations to explore, including cities, towns, and villages, as well as dungeons, caves, and ancient ruins.

Each location is filled with its own unique characters, creatures, and stories waiting to be discovered, although you probably know most of them by now. If not, that’s a skill issue.  The game also features a dynamic day-night cycle and weather system, which adds to the immersion and realism of the game world, although there are mods that add even more realism, such as survival mods. Players can also fast-travel to locations they’ve already visited, giving them the freedom to explore the world at their own pace.

Just make sure there aren’t any enemies nearby; we all know that struggle. The game’s open-world design allows players to engage in a variety of activities, from completing quests and battling enemies to crafting, cooking, and, my personal favourite, fighting dragons. The open world might be daunting for new players at first, but it is definitely well worth it.

So Many Ways to Play

In Skyrim, players have the freedom to play the game in whatever way is most comfortable for them. One common play style is the “warrior” play style, where players focus on maxing out their character’s combat skills and abilities, using weapons and armour to muscle through the game like a true child of Skyrim, making any Nord proud. Another play style is “thief,” where players, as you might guess, play as thieves.

Thieves focus on stealth and deception to complete quests and steal valuable items. Be sure to join the Thieves Guild for extra immersion. The “mage” play style is also popular, where players develop their character’s magical abilities and spells to defeat enemies and complete quests. Grab all the magic tomes and mana potions you can carry.

Players can also choose to focus on developing their character’s skills in archery, alchemy, or crafting. In addition, players can also choose to play the game as a “role-playing” character, where they create a backstory and persona for their character and immerse themselves in the game’s world and story (nerds). My personal favourite is “Chuck Norris,” where your only weapon is your fists, and you swing at any mystical beast that dares cross your path.
