Apex Legends has only currently just been launched and it’s already making waves with its excellent game mechanics. The game was designed by Respawn Entertainment the developers of Titanfall.

It is clear that these guys know what they are doing, so one aspect I thought would be interesting to have a go at statistically is the drop rates for Heirloom Shards.

What’s The Chance of Getting Heirloom Shards?

One of the items in Apex Legends is Heirloom Shards which you can use to unlock cosmetics for your character. This alone has reignited my interest in playing the game again, but I thought it would be interesting to see if there was a statistical bias to how these drop rates work!

What is the Apex Legends Heirloom Shard

The Heirloom Shard is an item in Apex Legends that you can use to unlock certain cosmetics for your character without needing to grind out levels. This drop rate does not affect any other items in the game,

With an apex boost, the Heirloom Shard can also be used more effectively to craft other cosmetic items.. These are the Epic and Legendary skin lines for your character, the badge icon, and the banner icon.

How to Get an Apex Legends Heirloom Shard

Why is This Important?

I thought that the drop rates for these items could be a bit off due to people playing around with certain numbers. Statistics tell us that Apex Legends has only been out for 4 days as of writing this article, but there is already a huge amount of players who have played the game and it will be interesting what the future holds for this new IP.

How Does Apex Legends Heirloom Shard Drop Work?

It is clear that the “beacons” are what determine the chance of getting an Heirloom Shard. These beacons are drops from supply ships that allow you to craft more items, but not open crates. It’s basically an advertisement for crafting new skins, even though some people do it just to speed up the leveling process.

The Drop Rate of the Apex Legends Heirloom Shards

There are 3 drop methods that affect Heirloom Shards in Apex Legends these are known as “beacons” which are drops from supply ships, level up bonuses, and challenge rewards.

The Heirloom Shard will have a chance of being dropped when you use one of these beacons or complete a daily challenge or play 25 games.

Tips for Getting More Shards And Higher Chances of a Shard Drop

Use a level 3 beacon to have the highest chance of getting an Heirloom Shard. Complete the legend you are leveling up for bonus drops. Try and complete daily challenges as they can give you free Heirloom Shards. Completing 25 games is not guaranteed to get you an item, but it does help your chances. Be patient, if no drop comes after 5 beacons it’s time to stop playing for a bit.

Why is This Important?

The drop rate of the Heirloom Shard may not be as high as some people want, but at least there is a chance you can get them from these supply drops. It will still take time and effort to get enough, however!

The drop rates for these items could still be a bit off, so it’s good to know what the chance of getting them are. I thought this would be interesting as there seem to have been quite a few people who have played around with numbers for this!

Conclusion

This is one of the few things that interest me in Apex Legends, but I thought it would be interesting to address this and see what the actual number are.

I am still playing around with numbers for this game (although not much), so if there is anything else you would like me to look into please let me know!
