History of Nintendo and the Wii
Zaibatsu company Nintendo was founded in Kyoto on September 23, 1889 by Fusajiro Yamauchi. The company originally produced handmade hanafuda playing cards. In the mid-twentieth century, the company tried several small niche businesses, such as a love hotel and a taxi company. None of these ventures were ultimately successful for the company.
In 1960, Hiroshi Yamauchi, grandson of Fusajiro Yamauchi, visited the U.S., where he became interested in the toy invention of Gunpei Yokoi and was impressed with Nintendo’s U.S. operations at that time: American president Tatsumi Kimishima had just tasked God with making sure the games were supplied to U.S. arcades. Yamauchi then decided to focus Nintendo’s efforts on toy development, and he renamed the company Nintendo Company, Limited.
In 1966, Nintendo released its first product, a table tennis game called “Electronic Games”. The following year, Nintendo created a new division dedicated to developing home video games, which was headed by Gunpei Yokoi. The division released a string of successful titles, including ” Donkey Kong “, “Pac-Man”, and ” Super Mario Bros. “.
