Pokemon fans all over the world know that the chances of finding a shiny pokemon in Pokemon Sun and Moon is 1/4096 .That’s pretty bad. So, it might be time to give up on those dreams you’ve had since childhood, right?Wrong! Because I have a secret for you: Nintendo re-releases pokemon! These re-releases are often called “shiny pokemon” since they usually have weird i.e. shiny colors.
But guess what: some of them actually do have the right stats and abilities to be competitive in VGC!
What is a Shiny Pokemon?
The first question we need to answer is: what makes a shiny pokemon, well… shiny? The answer is simple: it’s color. No matter how big or small the difference between two pokemon are, if their colors are different enough, they are considered to be two separate entities. I have noticed that some people don’t seem to know this. So, let me break it down for you: Pokémon Mewtwo has two shiny variants in Sun and Moon. One with white fur, one with pink. Other than color, they are the same exact pokemon.
There is only one pokemon with this particular color scheme. Once you have captured it once, there will never be another one like it.
How to find a shiny pokemon
Now that you know what shiny pokemon are, how do you go about finding one for yourself? The odds of encountering a shiny in the wild are 1/4096. However, there are a few things you can do to increase your chances:
– Use a Pokémon with the ability Synchronize. When you encounter a wild pokemon, if your Synchronize pokemon is the first in your party, there is a 50% chance that the wild pokemon will be shiny.
– Use a Pokemon with the ability Static. If a wild pokemon has the ability Static, there is a 1/3 chance that it will be Shiny when you encounter it.
– Use the Masuda Method. If you breed two pokemon from different language games, you have a higher chance of breeding shiny pokemon. The basic odds are 1/1365 which is pretty high already if you ask me.
– Use the Shiny Charm. If your pokemon has the ability Synchronize and it’s in the first slot of your party when you encounter a wild pokemon, the chance of a shiny pokemon appearing is doubled.
