The Born This Way Foundation’s goal is to support the wellness of young people and empower them to express their individuality. The foundation focuses its work in four areas: Mental Health & Media; Arts & Technology; Leadership & Social Change, and Physical Wellness.

We are currently working on an initiative called “Born Brave Bus Tour,” which will set out on its maiden voyage this Fall (October/November). We will be traveling the country, stopping in cities for a short period of time to host workshops and encourage open dialogue about issues facing LGBTQ youth.

We are also working on increasing mental health resources which include expanding our partnership with the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) to provide more resources to LGBTQ young people and their families.

Born This Way is a series of interviews with people about their personal experiences as LGBTQ youth

We spoke with a wide range of people for this series, including a transgender man who is married to a cisgender woman, a gay couple raising two children, and a queer young person who is genderfluid.

Each interviewee discusses the challenges they faced while growing up, as well as what it’s like for them now in a society that still has a long way to go when it comes to acceptance.

The goal is to show that everyone has different stories

The goal is to show that everyone has different stories and experiences, and that there is no “normal” or uniform way to be LGBTQ. We hope this series will lead to greater understanding of the individuals we spoke with, and of the community as a whole.

This project is still very new – only four people have been interviewed so far – but our plan is to release an interview every week for the next few months. We would love to hear your thoughts and feedback about the series, so please feel free to reach out to us!

Every interviewee’s story will be unique

We hope that by telling these stories, we can help break down some of the myths and stereotypes that persist about LGBTQ people. We also want to emphasize that every interviewee’s story will be unique, and there is no one “correct” way to be LGBTQ.

Born This Way is not just for LGBTQ+ listeners – it’s for anyone who wants to hear someone else’s story

We understand that not everyone who listens to Born This Way will be LGBTQ+, and that’s okay! We created this series for anyone who wants to hear someone else’s story, regardless of their own personal identity.

We hope that by listening to the stories of these brave individuals, you’ll be encouraged to express yourself in your own unique way.
